Garden and Heritage tours at Te Mata House

Our Garden and Heritage tour season is almost over, and we couldn’t be more thankful to those who came and enjoyed the beauty of the Te Mata House garden.

Garden tours at Te Mata House

We put a lot of effort into these tours to ensure our visitors have a wonderful experience. Firstly, our dedicated and talented gardeners, Wendy and James, work really hard to prepare the garden for viewing. They mow the lawns, shape the trees, trim the hedges, and do a general tidy up of the grounds so you can appreciate the magic of this Paul Bangay-designed Garden.

On arrival, Giselle or Jacqueline welcomes you with a smile ready to tell you everything about Te Mata House’s history and the gardens. The tour begins at the main gate where five almighty redwoods close to being 100 years old, boldly welcome guests as they enter the grounds.

The tour then leads you through the gardens stopping at historic buildings where you will learn more about the property that has established itself here since 1854. You’ll also learn about the creation of the garden and Jacqueline’s experiences of working with the renowned landscape designer, Paul Bangay.

You’ll be delighted to view Bangay’s structured and well-manicured design with an abundance of white hydrangeas, Sally Holmes, Pierre du Ronsard, Lemon and Lime and Iceberg roses, lavender, Rhododendrons, Hostas, Solomon’s Seal, and more.

At the conclusion of the 11 station tour, you’ll come to rest at the newly-built pool house to enjoy morning tea. The two-hour tours run between October and April for a minimum of 10 guests.

Of course, we have no control over the weather, but can assure you, rain or shine, you’ll have a great time! So, gather your friends together and plan your garden tour for the next season. We look forward to meeting you
