TE MATA HOUSE BLOG

Spring is here!

Thank goodness winter is behind us! It’s now time to put on our gloves, roll up our sleeves and get stuck into ‘spring cleaning’ the garden and surrounds. The garden is changing daily and every day it comes to life in many different ways. The tulip flowers are slowly dropping but the Sally Holmes roses, the hydrangeas, the catmint and the hedges are rapidly growing. So too is the grass! Although beautiful, spring sure brings a lot of work!

This month, Te Mata House is open for garden visits and tours for groups of ten or more. These run through to March.

We have four tours already booked for October, with numbers between 15 and 50 visitors at a time. The tour includes a walk around the property’s gardens and historic areas, such as the Whiskey Room, the Schoolhouse and the cellar door. Jacqueline will speak of Te Mata House’s extensive history, including detail of her three-year renovation of the property and the installation of the beautiful Paul Bangay designed garden. Once the tour is over, guests will enjoy a delicious scone and a cup of tea by the pool, overlooking the garden and historic homestead. A perfect spring activity.

We are very excited about these tours and can’t wait to welcome our first group. In the meantime, our small, dedicated team at Te Mata House are preparing the property for this perfect spring activity!

If you have a group of friends or know someone who’d love to hear more about our history and gardens, feel free to contact us. You can also find out more about these tours on our website’s Garden and Heritage page.

Happy spring!
